Beno Blachut sung in the National Theatre in Prague for the first time in 1941. It was in the role of Jeník in Smetana's Bartered Bride. He was selected personally by Václav Talich and performed alongside another great artist, baritone Eduard Haken. Beno Blachut became the most important tenor on the Czech scene during the 1950's and 1960's and sung in many different operas of which a number was recorded by Supraphon. He also excelled in his interpretaion of Janáček's works and another Supraphon disc worth mentioning here is the still available Diary of One Who Disappeared (SU 0022).
